Posted on Thu, 17 Nov 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,

I'm a male 34 years old . On the 26th August I had an unprotected oral sex only with a female and had ejaculated in her mouth. Soon I washed my penis with soap. This happened only once. After that on the 2ND October I had observed few skin allergy above my chest and was i worried a lot. On the 19th October I gave my blood for HIV 4th generation test along with that I got my Hepatitis AB&C test too and all the results came negative. Also I got my general blood works & urine and they all were good. However, when I read online most of them have different opinions. I'm little confused and want to move on in my life. This fear and worries is killing me internally. Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Oral sex is not a mode of HIV infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for various Sexually transmitted diseases including HIV and hepatitis.

After analyzing your complete query diligently let me reassure you first that overall there are least chances for HIV. It is because of the fact that oral sex not a usual mode of HIV transmission. The test results are very much encouraging. Though in my opinion further test for hiv is not required. But even then for mental satisfaction you can go for the test at 3 months from the incidence.

For hepatitis part also the test should be done after 3 months of the incidence. Hepatitis A and C doesn't spread oral sex. It is only hepatitis B which requires testing.

Overall I reassure you that there are least chances of any of these infections.

I hope this helps.

Dear Doctor

Thanks!! But when you said on long term follow up that they remain negative that means should I get another test or just move on and make sure that I don't create any such mistakes.

Brief Answer:
There is nothing to be worried about anything.

Detailed Answer:
Dear young fellow,

Welcome back and thanks for your swift response.

In my opinion there is no need to go for any further testing. But many a times I observe that person remains concious and concerned till he or she gets a negative report after 3 months.

So if you are totally relaxed then there is nothing to be done. But if you have any point of concern remaining then can go for testing after the completion of 3 months.

My all best wishes to you.

With regards,

Dr Sanjay Kanodia
