Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: Is desoxym still prescribed for ADHD and what is the usual dosage and direction.
Also would this be the reason for a false positive drug screening for amphetemines and methamphetimines
Also what symptoms would one have to be prescribed this med

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

1. Desoxym is the trade name for the generic Metamphetamine (active ingredient), which is a stimulant and is used to treat ADHD and sometimes is prescribed as part of weight loss treatment in obese patients.

The starting dosage is 5 mg /day; and it will be increased on weekly basis gradually until reaching the right dosage as per clinical symptoms (up to 20 or 25 mg/day) in two divided doses.

2. As the active ingredient is Metamphetamine, this explains why the drug screening for amphetamines and metamphetamines resulted false positive in your case.

3. Symptoms of ADHD include:
- moderate to severe distractibility
- hyperactivity
- short attention span
- emotional lability
- impulsivity

Psychological counseling (psycho-therapy) is also recommended in ADHD patients to help them restore the normal function or at least coping with their actual situation without going to extreme behaviours.

Hope it answered to your queries!
