Posted on Thu, 13 Oct 2016
Question: Of late I have been getting my periods in 22 or 24 days instead of the normal 28 to 30 days cycle. Is there some problem with my body. Will need your advice.

Brief Answer:
Irregular menses

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
According to the definition, a menstrual cycle between 23 -35 days is considered normal and a slight deviation from the regular date is most often due to stress induced hormonal imbalances during the cycle. So if its been a single episode then one needs to watch for at least 3 cycles to establish pattern of bleeding first.
If the pattern is that cycles have been shortened inspite to efforts to decrease stressors in life like physical , emotional , psychological, academic or professional, then one needs to next get a hormonal profile done - especially fsh, lh, serum progesterone, testosterone and estradiol levels along with an ultrasound pelvis to establish any relevant organic , mechanical or hormonal causes for shortened menses.

Maintain menstrual calendar.

Detailed Answer:
You are most welcome XXXXXXX
Please maintain a menstrual calendar , indicating the date of onset of menses , date on which it stopped, number of pads changed, if any pain associated or not, if yes then mention dates, if any clots passed on days.
This shall be helpful.
