Suggest Treatment For Voiding Dysfunction While Having BPH

Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: I have a lazy bladder fromm wearing a foley catheter too long and saw a urologist today that spent of all of 5 minutes with me, refused to let me try to void and told me we would have to do a work up. His nurse entered and I told her the same story and then she assked me if I was suicidal? I asked her why she was asking that and she said she could not disclose only that it was not a physician, then said it was someone who called. I challenged her about HIPPA and asked to see the dr. He said there were no more discussions and I could see another urologist if I wanted is this a violation of HIPPA or just unethical.? What if I called his doctor and told him I thought he or someone else was suicidal? I am very disappointed and am going to find another uroligist

BPH seems to be the cause. I had 911 pick me up and they placed(hospital) a foley and advised me to make an appt with a urologist. Unfortunately, I had to wait several weeks to have it removed. Instead of allowing me to try and void, he rudely told me that my bladder had become"lazy"and it would take a "workup" with cytoscopy over several weeks. Unfortunately, there are not many urologists where I live. mY MAIN CONCERN IS THE SUICIDEquestion stating only that "someone contacted them and told them. All she would tell me was that it was not a physician. Thi is very troubling as I could walk into a neighbors doctors and make that statement about him or any person. When I asked for him to clarify this he became very rude and said "This is our policy and you can find another urologist if you don't like it"

Brief Answer:
Answer specific queries.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

I'd asked you, since when was the catheter placed ?
Also, what was the indication for placing it ?
Was the bladder full and you found it difficult to pass any urine ?
Or was there any other reason ?
If you're having any other illness or treatment, kindly mention them.

Are you wanting more information on HIPPA ?

Wish you well.

Hello
Catheter was placed about 4 weeks ago due to inability to void. Bladder was ver full and distended and I called 911. They placed a foley and reccomended seeing a urologist NO other illnesses. Yes, my HIppa rights and unethical actions regarding asking if I was suicidal are my main concerns Can a urologist or any doctor ask this and refuse to tell you whom it was other than it was NOT physician. Someone called she(head nurse)said, but refused to tell me who. I find this very unethical and want your opinion please

Brief Answer:
HIPPA rights are best addressed by a legal advisor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

If it's not your medical doubts,it's better to consult a legal advisor.
HIPPA rights are best interpreted by a legal counsellor.

The medical staff have relieved your medical emergency and you're healthy now.
You should think about that.
And you're going to consult an Urologist anyway.
Think about your health and don't chase the legal changes.

Wish you well.

This incident transpired at a urologist that the hospital referred me to. Unfortunately, my urology problems are not resolved. After the urologist had his nurse pull the catheter, I asked her if I could stand and try to void. She left to ask the urologist and he returned irate and said "NO". This will take a "work up before we can put a cytoscope in, so they simply pulled the foley and put in a leg catheter. IN hindsight, they should have pulled the foley and at least let me try. This doctor is very arrogant and has a "god" complex;however there are very few urologists in Las Vegas. I found another urologist and see him on Monday. I am taking flomax and antibiotis due to a UTI also Thank you for your opinion.

Brief Answer:
Continue with Flomax and you should be able to pass urine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Generally,we do give a trial, to see if the person passes urine after catheter removal.
There could be some reason to disallow that.

With Flomax treatment, now after catheter removal, you may be able to pass urine.
Let's hope for the best.
Should there be any problem, you'll need some tests,to advise further treatment.
If you're able to exercise,do so daily for about one hour.
This will also help in strengthening the muscles and expel urine.

Wish you well.
