Brief Answer:
The thickness of 3 mm of the endometrium is normal in perimenopause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The endometrial thickness depends on many factors.
It may indicate that you are in the perimenopausal period.
Generally, the normal thickness of endometrium for perimenopausal women should be less than 5.0 mm.

So,in such a case the thickness of 3 mm is normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!

Will I still have a period and what are other causes than perimenopause as other tests and symptoms rule out perimenopause

Answered by Dr. Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Follow up explained below in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

Perimenopause is a process, so you will have other periods. Your menstrual cycles may lengthen or shorten in time.

There is no specific examination that can confirm that you are in perimenopause.
To rule out other conditions I suggest the following examinations:
-estrogen level
-LH and FSH level
-thyroid hormone levels

Other possible causes of thin endometrium are fibroids, which you have already ruled out through the ultrasound.

Hope it helps dear.

Kind regards,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi

Answered by Dr. Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi (10 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes,you can still conceive.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

Yes, during perimenopause it is still possible to concieve.
The ovulation can occur, meaning you can conceive naturally.
If you do not want to become pregnant, you should use a birth control until you reach menopause.
Menopause is reached when you have gone 12 months without having your period.

Acupuncture can be very helpful.
It can improve the symptoms of perimenopause and increase the estrogen level.
It has a very positive impact.

Hope it helps dear,

Thank you very much for your help. How long does perimenopause usually last please? Is this why my periods are sometimes lighter than usual

The average period of perimenopause is four years.

Detailed Answer:
The average length of perimenopause is four years but for some women it may last for ten years.
For other woman it may last some months,so it is very individual.
