How To Confirm That Medical Abortion Was Complete?
Question: Hi doctor i took mifepristone and after 36 hrs I took 4 200g misoprostol bucally. After taking misoprostol I started bleeding in 1 hr but it was a normal bleeding and stopped after 11 hrs. I m confused whether abortion is completed. Pls help me how can I confirm it. Whether I can have normal pregnancy test using home kit.

Please dont take these medications without the prescription and supervision of a gynaecologist.. May I know when was your last period? Did you get a scan to know whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy..
Usually after taking misoprostol bleeding starts in an hour with passage of clots and products of conception. Medical abortion is effective only for gestational age less than 7 weeks. If your gestational age is less than 7 weeks and its a confirmed intrauterine pregnancy, you might require a second dose of misoprostol vaginally. Please consult your gynaecologist to get a scan done to see for retained products of conception.
If the retained products are minimal , then a check scan is required after 14 days to see whether the uterine cavity is empty.
If retained products are more, then a second dose of misoprostol is required or a D and C might be done based on your gynaecologist's opinion.
