Brief Answer: Levonorgestrel can be taken Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern. Emergency Contraceptive Pill should be taken ideally with in 24 hours. However, it can be taken even upto 72 hours of having intercourse, but efficacy decreases as the time passes. Give me following details: 1. When was your last menstrual period? When did they started last time? 2. What is length of your cycle? 3. When did exactly you had intercourse? By asking these questions, I am trying to find out that you were in Safe or Unsafe period. In general, you can take drugs like i-pill (levonorgestrel) one tablet as soon as possible after the intercourse. But please note that these drugs should not be used as Routine Contraception methods. They should be used only in cases of Emergency. This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any query you may please ask me. Stay Healthy. Dr Anshul Varshney , MD

Brief Answer: Detail Follows Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Since you had intercourse on around 20th day of your cycle, so it can not be determined that you would get pregnant or not. If your partner had used condom during the act, so usually there is no need of further taking any medication. If there is any history of Condom rupture or slipping, the you may take medication like i-pill single tablet within 72 hours of your act. This is my best opinion for you. If you have any further query please ask me. Stay Healthy.

Ok thanks for the response. I will take ipills immdiately today. It will not have any side effects right? Also since we has intercourse on 20th day the possibility of pregnancy is high? If I get my periods on 28th of this month again properly then is there a possibility that I may get pregnant? Waiting for your response.

Brief Answer: Detail Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. First of all, let me clear you that these pills can have there side effects like: 1. Spotting 2. Irregular periods for few cycles. Once you get your period on the expected date, then there is no chance of getting pregnant. But i would again say, that these pills have to be taken only in cases of emergency like Condom rupture/slip, unprotected sexual intercourse. If you have any further query, please ask me, else you may close the discussion and rate it.
