Question: Hello
I'm 32 years old. I had normal periods all throughout. Last period was on 19 August. After that till date no periods. I had a regular and accurate 26 days cycle for the last 22 years. Now when consulted gynac, she advised Meprate one in morning and one at night. Yet so far no bleeding. Taking since 4 days. Also there's swelling on face for the past one week. Kindly suggest.

Brief Answer:
COMPLETE THE COURSE AND WAIT FOR A FEW MORE DAYS

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Meprate needs to be taken for atleast 5 days, for how long have you been prescribed the drug ?
Also, after completing the course of Meprate, you need to wait for one more week to have withdrawal bleeding.
Meprate is given to correct mild hormonal imbalance, which leads to menstrual irregularity.
So please complete the course and wait for a few more days.
Hope pregnancy has been ruled out.
Also, thyroid hormone levels should be checked and a pelvic ultrasound scan should be performed.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.

Thank you so much for answering the query.

My doctor too advised for T3,T4 and TSH test which I got done. My results are as follows:
T3 : 96.14
T4 : 8.34
TSH : 3.17

My doctor has suggested Ebexid, two tablets to be taken daily in the morning. And yes, doctor had asked me to take Meprate for 5 days and wait for a week.

Doctor, my query now is:

1. As already told, my menses were absolutely on time for 22 years. Now its nearing 45 days since the last menses. Will my periods be normal as before?

2. I've a six year old daughter. Because of studies, I had waited to have the second child. I'm doing PhD. Now its done and I want to have second child. Will it be possible to have another child?

3. If yes, will the hormonal imbalance cause any adverse effects on conception, pregnancy or the health (physical/mental) of the unborn child?

Waiting anxiously to hear from you

Regards
doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Let me explain your queries in details now -
1. IF this is just mild hormonal imbalance, your periods would resume to be on time. After the age of 35 or 40, many women do not have clockwork periods like their 20s. If there is any problem like polycystic ovaries etc detected on ultrasound, then that would need to be treated.
2. It should be possible to have another child, but you should not wait too long. Eggs in the ovaries decline with age, and it is best to avoid postponing pregnancy for too long.
3. Hormonal imbalance can lead to irregular cycles and difficulty in conception, which would require treatment. THere would be no adverse effects on the baby, at times, hormonal imbalance increases risk of miscarriage.
But do not worry, there is a treatment for everything.
Take care.
