Have Raised Bumps On Feet And Thigh. Diagnosed With Genetic Ichthyosis. Medicine For Cure?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Feb 2013
Question: I have multiple brown dry raised bumps on top of me feet and inner thighs and a few on the sides of my thighs. I was diagnosed young with genetic icthyosis. Not severe but worse in cold weather. I was told by one derm and one MD that these bumps are stucco keratosis and another form of solar damage. Now, it's totally destroying my self esteem and I won't wear any skin exposing clothes. I really need help and we are talking hundred of these bumps, so freezing off isn't possible. Also, I wanted to ask your opinion on using keralac lotion or some kind of topical cream that covers a large area. I would like to know I'd you bare able to prescribe medications as well? My MD gave me the topical gel that removes skin cancers but it's such a tiny amount of the gel, it's not realistic to use as often as directed. The Derm wanted to sell me a facial lightening kit and again too small a quantity for legs and quite expensive for the inadequacy of quantity to use on legs. Please help me if you can.

Dear XXXXXXX
Thank you for posting your query on health care magic.
I would not go into the details of three theory about ichthyosis as you must have read all details about it.
Was there any biopsy Done for diagnosing, or just clinical diagnosis?
Do you have same pathology running in the family? Do you have fish scale like dry scaly skin?
There is no compete cure for ichthyosis. The main goal of treatment is to moisturise and exfoliate. This helps prevent dryness, scaling, cracking and build-up of skin.People with ichthyosis need to bathe, moisturise and exfoliate their skin on a daily regular basis. Your dermatologist may have prescribed or recommendedrecommended moisturising creams and ointments to keep the condition under control. In severe cases they may prescribe oral retinoids such as acitretin or isotretinoin. This can help to reduce scaling. Oral antibiotics may be prescribed if secondary infection occurs.
The following skin care tips may help :
Apply lotions and creams to wet skin to trap in the moisture (within 3 minutes of showering/bathing)
Rub gently a pumice stone on wet skin to help remove thickened crusty skin
Lanolin creams and products containing urea, lactic acid and other alpha hydroxy acids may help to exfoliate and moisturise skin
Don't use any face lightening agents. You just have to correct the pathology.Don't fall to the business gimmicks of doctors.
This condition has no other Laser or surgical Cure my dear
I hope I have been of some help in guiding you.
If you have any more questions please feel free to post again

Thank you for your quick reply and thoughtful answer. I wanted to let you know that I have the dry skin and icthyosis to a tolerable level. Not perfect as my skin never will be, but Florida climate has helped. I had modeled some when younger actually so it's not too bad, more present on heels and hands. My bigger concern is the multiplying brown keratosis, stucco keratosis bumps that are hereditary from my Dad. My niece has spots on top of foot and two of my brothers, more white in appearnce on their skin, while mine is more flesh colored My Dad has them more present on his body. I know living in a warm climate, I can't enjoy life feeling like I have warty looking freckles and bumps. I saw a litte improvement with hydroquinone script and the topical skin cancer gel. But I am looking for a removal option. Any suggestions besides moisturizing? Would you think I need a dermatologist or another type specialist. Again, without arrogance, I was always quite attractive and complimented my whole life. This struck me in my late thirties after a four week visit to a XXXXXXX salon preparing for beach vacation. Thats when they really multiplied on me. Sorry dpfor any redundancy, but i would like removal solution
