Question: yes please.
I have recently had a very fishy odour coming from my vagina.....it's been itchy and uncomfortable......and I now have brown tissue/skin coming from my vagina? what could be happening to me?
I meant to ask as well, I purchased Balance Activ (which is a pessary) which you insert into the vagina at night before bed, to try to combat the fishy odour Im getting.......and used one last night for the first time, but now I have since got this brown skin/tissue im passing out of my vagina? I just don't understand it? Do you think it's advisable to see my GP? do you think I need a D & C?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I am trying to solve your problem.

It is mostly suggestive of bacterial vaginosis (Vaginitis). Less possible causes are existence of vaginal yeast infection or any type of Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

To confirm the diagnosis, pelvic examination and one vaginal swab test or smear of vaginal discharge is required for microscopic examination. Blood test for STD panel, routine urine examination may be required additionally.

Brown tissue is mostly old endometrial lining tissue. If it comes out much, then you may need to undergo D & C after resolving the vaginal infection by proper antibiotic treatment or vaginal suppository.

Balance Activ BV is quite effective in maintaining vaginal pH with reduction of presenting symptoms. One course of antibiotic is required along with. Metronidazole or Tinidazole is the drug of choice.

Please consult with your treating doctor for local examination & take prescribed medication accordingly.

Some preventive tips to avoid future recurrence :

- Do not douching your vagina or wipe out much your genital area.
- Use condom while you involve in sexual activity with your partner.
- Avoid using scented bath products/ chemical cosmetics/ perfumed intimate products.
- Avoid tight fitting dress to decrease moisture around genital area, wear only clean & cotton underwear.
- Take nutritious healthy diet with vitamin & iron supplements and drink more fluids/ water.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
