I received a response from Soumen, and I have a question. He stated that a brief answer: Post menopausal symptoms. Need natural estrogen. I am 81 years old, and I had a complete Historectomy in 1986 where they took everything, ovaries and everything. Can I still be postmenopausal? Or could it have anything to do with my Thyroid? or what? I also have been having a constant and chronic dry cough for many years. My tongue has enlarged and starting to have difficulty swallowing. Any other thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Need more detailing .

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'm, thanks for being with us. I am sorry I don't have the complete thread with me, still what ever I could get from your query on that basis I will tell you a few things.
1. Postmenopausal symptoms do not usually trouble so many years after hysterectomy, ( almost 27 years now).
2. No Hormone replacement therapy(HRT) is usually advised at the age of 81 years.
3. Enlarged tongue can be due to thyroid under functioning, swollen tongue may cause difficulty in swallowing.
4. Chronic persistent dry cough may be due to gastric reflux or due to swollen tongue.
Now, in case you want to know anything more from me, please let me know your detailed history including the medicines you are taking and your recent reports if any.

Thanks you, I am so happy to see you are endocrinologist as that was going to be my next step.)
I have had a very difficult couple year, and am on too many medicines, Brief history. My medication is Metoprolol 25mg twice daily,Lisinopril 5 mg 1, Levothyroxin 37.5 mcg daily, Omeprazole 20MG 1AM 1PM, Vitamin D 50,000 1 weekly, Calcium 950 twice daily,Bayer 81 mg 1PM, Cephalexin 250 MG 1 daily, I started Procera as preventative for brain health, I added PRO-X10 probiotic,.TV, as I have been unhappy with so many issues this year.
I also had a total knee replacement and am doing great on this. I have acid reflux, and the last endoscopy biopsy (2 1/2 years ago) diagnosed that I do not have XXXXXXX Esophagus. I had my third Lumbar fusion a couple years ago. Now the Doctor had suggested that I fuse C3 thru C7---but I got a second opinion and have been holding off of this. Both Ortho. Doctors have said I do not have anything GOOD in my neck. Periodic headaches, and very pain full neck issues at times.
I had a monarc sling put in XXXXXXX 2006, and after several years and another checkup showed that the sling had torn and may need removal, but the Doctor stated that it was my decision, but sometimes this is worse after, so have been stalling, but this passed year I have had so many infections, and the vagina is very uncomfortable and a heavy feeling in the area, and warm all the time, so now they are suggesting (IF I WANT) to remove it and replace it with the new model. But again I sought a second opinion, and I wondered as to whether I should have it removed, and wait for that to heal, and then put in another if needed. (Which I am sure may be.) So as you can see I have had a great deal of issues, along with a constant and chronic pain in my lower left abdomen which I have had for many year (One Doctor suggested I see a Psychiatrist--so needless to say I left her care, but this is in my records so am wondering how this may have changed my entire CARE.)
I am presently seeing a Gastroenterologist and this week I see him on Wednesday, he is checking with the Urologist and working together to get some answers also.
I am a Christian and I pray that this may get me some answers and some help.
As I am an active 81 year old but have been so tired and lethargic for such a long time, and just feel extremely miserable. Thank you and May God Bless You.
P.P.S. In reading this over, I am not sitting in a recliner feeling sorry for myself, in fact just the opposite. I dress very nice each day and go and go. Most people that see me do NOT know how I feel, and I will keep it that way. I LOVE LIFE, BUT CRY WHEN I AM HOME ALONE, and am getting very tired of feeling so miserable. My back of course has given me a great deal of problems also, and being so fused in the lower area, I have difficulty getting dressed and bending at all. In my 81 years I have had 22 surgeries, all necessary ones, even have had 3 catheter ablations of the heart. I hope I am not putting down too much, but have not had just ONE doctor to explain everything too. THANKS AGAIN. I will highly recommend this website, as I am sure there are others like me.

also have this chronic tickle in my throat and just got home from playing cards, and had to leave there twice to get a drink of water. Awhile ago, I had positive Cocci and Bascilli in my sputum, and this has never been rechecked lately.???? Plus a uncomfortable throat.

I am looking forward to some response and appreciate your time and effort. I realize I expressed as much of my medical history as possible, and these past years have been concerning. I hope I didn't give the impressing that I cry all the time, as that is definitely not the case. But when I dress and it hurts it causes tears. when I have a coughing spell which has been happening quite often lately or have to bend over for any reason I get discouraged, plus I am so tired and lethargic, but as I stated I love life and always try to see the positive side, so my friends aren't aware. THANKS A MILLION, Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Dear Mngrinager, it was really wonderful reading you through. When I say so I really mean it. I forgot I am on XXXXXXX I felt I know you personally and felt as if my own mother is relating to me. I appreciate your love for life and I wish I can carry the same charm when I am 81 years of age.

Now coming to your health issues, as you rightly said no single doctor can answer all the medical problems, so I will also not be able to answer all, but what ever I know i will share with you to the best of my knowledge.

1. For your cough, please get a sputum culture & sensitivity, blood culture and sensitivity, and then follow the reports with the help of your XXXXXXX medicine MD.

2. I would like to know your recent thyroid profile so that I can make some recommendations about your thyroid medication.

3. You should be on proton pump inhibitors for acidity, tickling throat, so discuss this with your treating doctor when you visit him next.

4. Heart problems are best dealt with by your cardiologist, ma'm, and I would request you to continue with the heart medicines as they are quite necessary.

5. Vaginal issues will be answered by a gynecologist. (It is a choice you have to make about how to deal with it as the doctors will only give you the options and ask you to choose what suites you best).

6. Chronic left lower abdominal pain can be due to Pelvic infection, you can get your urine checked, one Ultra sound scan of the abdomen and pelvis, and stool routine examination done. Meanwhile, gastroenterologist and urologist will come up with something.

7. Your bone pains might respond to teriparatide so you can try that in consultation with your orthopedic.

Do write back with the latest thyroid reports if you have, or else please get one done so as to see if you require any dosage modification of thyroid hormone supplementation.

I hope I have been of some help. Keep up your spirits and you are doing great for your age already.

Warm regards,

Thanks you so much for your response, I am late and getting ready for church, but had an interesting walk this morning. My neighbor moved to the middle of our building (which is a CCRC) and I delivered her newspapers to her--she did live across the hall from me. While walking I felt hot and sweaty, and coming home, I was the same and even felt weak, and trembling. When I got home my BODY TEMPERATURE under my arm was 95.4 and 15 minutes later it was 96.0.....which I feel is not normal. Does that have to do with my glands or?
More later today. Again I appreciate your assistance, as I want to return to as full a health as possible. Your mother must be very proud of you.

When I get home I will look up my Thyroid test and report to you.
I will re-read your reply and I again that you a million.

I tried to get my last Thyroid results, but HealthPartners is working on their website, and have been Down for the last several days. I do remember seeing them, and they seemed a little low--but within the normal range, the Doctor stated. They did a T3 T4, and TSH. If you still need this report, I will have to get it from my Primary Care Doctor this week. This cough of mine, and this sweating & the hot flashes, plus my always have a LOW body temperature has been concerning me. I am always so cold. Plus the other issues.
Hope you had a very wonderful weekend.
