Question: Good Evening (Morning) Having trouble sleeping due to a quickened pulse - seems like my heart rate is accelerated and I have excessive sweating. My last blood pressure check (last week) was 117 / 72, but I am pre-diabetic and overweight. Have also been taking an antibiotic and decongestant for a sinus infection but taking these for a week has not caused me any trouble.

Brief Answer:
Could be low blood glucose levels

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, you seem to be having low blood glucose levels, possibly as a side effect of antibiotic.
But there can be other causes for the similar symptoms like:

- cardiac arrhythmia
- thyroid problem
- panic attacks, etc.

For this reason, I will recommend the following tests as per priority:

- thyroid hormone levels, fasting blood sugar levels, serum electrolytes
- a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring for possible cardiac arrhythmia

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
