Does Uncomfortable Sensations In Left And Middle Of Chest With Normal EKG Results Relate To Any Heart Disease?

default
Posted on Sun, 22 Apr 2012
Question: I have been having uncomfortable sensations in on the left and middle of my chest. I have been withdrawing from sugar/caffeine and am quite anxious. 3 nights ago my heart felt 'fatigued' when i was cycling, though i was pushing myself quite hard, and has not happened since at all when i exercise. This uncomfortableness doesn't seem to change during exercise in any noticable way. I do have a bit of a cough that comes and goes. I have been to a doctor, but had not been having these strange sensations, i would not call it pain, but it is uncomfortable anyway, it is chronic, and goes away for a short while occasionally, it is mild, perhaps a 2 out of 10, maybe less. I had an EKG done, all fine. Should i be worried that it is my heart?

Hi,Rugz

Thanks for posting your query.

I do not see any reason for worry. You already been to a doctor,EKG also normal and your age, when we put all things together in most of cases the heart disease is ruled out.

As you said you are withdrawing from sugar/caffeine,this must be a part of withdrawal symptoms.Do not get disturbed with this ,continue the good work that you are doing.

The common possibility is dyspepsia, means increase production of gas in G.I.tract and some digestive disturbances. This is common because of withdrawal and also because of anxiety state that you are in.

Just take frequent small meals, avoid spicy food and junk food.Avoid cold drinks and tobacco in any form.

Take proper rest.

Keep your self busy all the time and please stop worrying. You are not having any major problem.

I hope this answers your query,I will be available for follow up.

Keep it up.

Hi there, thank you for your response.

I think anxiety is a massive part of this, as i distract myself and i feel fine, i can imagine if it were serious i would notice it when i do not focus. My left arm feels slightly tired too now, especially raising it, perhaps i have hurt my pectoral muscle... i have no idea

i am obese(just) however, and lead a fairly horrible lifestyle, but that has changed now, perhaps i should have put that in medical history. Though i am exercising (a lot, and loving it). I hope that does not change it, hopefully my age would suggest i havn't had enough time to seriously damage my heart in a permanent way. This discomfort seems to be mostly in my heart area, which makes me worry that it might not be as you say, however it occasionally does feel like it comes from my middle chest area (though that has not happened for a while now). Like i said before, just to re-iterate, this doesn't feel like pain.. occasionally perhaps there is pain, for a split second, and a 1-10 kind of pain. I'm just re-writing this as this stresses me out soo much. I think the biggest reassurance for me is that exercising distracts me from this, and best of all does not seem to make my symptoms worse, which hopefully suggests it is just anxiety because of my experience when i was riding (which i pushed myself way too hard). It has been almost 10 days since i've stopped with any major sugar intake, i have stopped once before, and am not sure how long symptoms last, but i am definitely anxious regardless, i worry about my health a lot, and now that i've decided to diet and lead a healthy lifestyle it worries me so much more that i may have already caused myself irreversible damage.

I hope what i have written made sense, hard to think clearly in describing this when i'm anxious like this, but your response has been reassuring.

Hi,

Good to see you back.

I think you very well understand what your problem is.

Weight loss is good and you should be doing it.

Be judicious in what you are doing. Means if you have stopped taking sugar to lost weight please do not do this. Please have it in moderation.

Yes it is good that you like exercise which is very much needed for you. Normally any heart related ailments gets worse with exercise so do not worry.

Enjoy life, avoid stress and be careful.

Wish you a good health.

Regards.
