Does Cortisone Shot Cause Increase In Liver Enzyme Levels?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: I recently had a cortisone shot in my shoulder and a week later went for routine blood work and my liver enzymes are all high. The were normal in the past and I eat healthy, exercise and drink wine occasionally. Could the cortisone shot be causing it?

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Yes this can happen after steroid shot. Actually liver is involved in metabolism of steroids and when there is a suddent rise in steroid level in body, liver too starts working with more machinary to coup up with that raised level.

If there is no previous hisotry of liver disease then you are at low risk of any permanent problem..You should not panic and get the test repeated in 3 weeks.

Dont take any pain killers and avoid any steroid shot for the time being.Don't panic things seem fine.

I hope this answered your question, a
