Does UTI Cause Pain Radiating From Thighs To Knees?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Feb 2015
Question: I'm 19 and I didn't have any of the common symptoms of a UTI (no pain urinating or frequently needing to urinate) so it really didn't cross my mind, but I went to the doctor with abdominal aches and pelvic pain which had been going on for a good month, he examined my abdomen and said it all felt normal and he took a urine sample and said there was some infection in it. He gave me antibiotics (Trimethoprim) which I started yesterday, but basically since I got back from the doctor yesterday afternoon I have have aches in my upper leg that spreads to as far as my knees, and I was not sure if this is just due to the UTI? The pain came before I first took the antibiotic, it comes and goes. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Unlikely due to UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX , it's very unlikely that the pain radiation to your knees is related to the uti. you should complete the antibiotic course. this kind of radiating pain could be due renal stones or pelvic . you can take pain killers for that like drotavarine . apply hot foment action. drink plenty of water to wash out any infection . any pelvic inflammation should be ruled out.
