Does Nexpro Help Cure Severe GERD?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Jul 2016
Question: Hello doctor
I have been experiencing severe gerd for the past 1.5 years.an endoscope revealed a sliding hiatal hernia. The doctors prescribed me nexpro rd 40.i took it for 15 days, aside this i had irregular periods . the endocrinologist took a hormone test and revealed my prolactin to be around 72 ng/ml. He suggested this could be due to the domperidone content in nexpro rd,so i stopped it.Is it safe for me to consume nexpro rd or does plain nexpro suffice.

Brief Answer:
Simply taking Nexpro should suffice.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. I think that taking plain Nexpro should suffice and you need not take the combination with domperidone. Be sure to take a lot of fiber rich foods alongside on regular basis.

If I had a patient like you, I would have perhaps given her Prodep (Fluoxetine) 20 mg once daily before breakfast to be taken alongside. Anxiety (may be latent) plays an important role in GERD and this medicine helps in reducing GERD problems by reducing anxiety. It would however take at least 6 weeks for the action to set in.

Regards
