But currently the latest generations intrauterine devices are medicated; thereby closing the gap between the two. So if you are going in for medicated T devices (not simple copper T) it is acceptable. But in routine practice, I prefer to use oral birth control medicines simply because it is much easier to handle, no procedure involved, no chance of misplacement's and intrauterine infections. Intrauterine devices also has its advantages. Therefore it is going to be your and your doctors choice based on comfort. If I were to be your treating doctor, I would choose oral contraceptives.
