Does Cipralex Cause Harm To The Foetus During Pregnancy?

Posted on Mon, 7 Apr 2014
Question: Hi, I have been on cipralex 10 mg for six months. I am 32 years old, female, with no history of depression or anxiety, but due to a series of traumatic events, was recommended this dose to cope. Within the last month, I have begun tapering. Went down to 7,5 mg for two weeks, then down to 5 mg for two weeks. After one week on 2,5 mg a day, I tested positive for pregnancy. I therefore stopped medication completely. Three days later I am experiencing electrical shock sensations in my head, fatigue, irritabilty, and nausea. During the tapering, I did not experience these symptoms. My main concern is the developing foetus, what harm can come to it from the drug that was/is in my system (five weeks pregnant, counting from first day of last menstruation)? Also, how long can I expect to experience these withdrawal symptoms? Are the withdrawal symptoms harmful to me or the foetus?

Brief Answer: It will cause no harm to you or your foetus Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for choosing wwwhealthcaremagic.com Cipralex should not cause harm to you or your foetus , esp. in the dose of 2.5 mg you were taking. it is a very safe drug to be used during Pregnency, if the need arises. These symptoms can continue for 2-3 weeks but are not serious. you need to relax and take care of general health. Dr Saatiish Jhuntrraa

Could you explain what is happening in the brain to cause these "electrical impulses"?

Brief Answer: These impulses will stop by themselves Detailed Answer: Hello The electrical impulses could be due to hyper reative HT2 receptors due to withdrawal of SSRI. But these should stop by themselves when things are stabilized. DR SAATIISH JHUNTRRAA
