Brief Answer: Ultrasound of thyroid Detailed Answer: The best modality to assess the thyroid is a thyroid specific ultrasound. It is fairly common for thyroid nodules to be incidentally discovered during carotid ultrasound. If thyroid nodules are large enough they can cause a variety of symptoms. The hilar adenopathy also merits evaluation. Check with a pulmonologist if it worthy of further work up.
