Question: Can the combination of the following cause weight gain, or prevent weight loss in a patient who is eating correctly?Olmesartan Medoxomil 10mgs x 1 daily

Escitalopram 10mg x 1 daily

Levothyroxine 25mcg x 1 daily Saturday and Sunday

Levothyroxine 50mcg x 1 daily Saturday and Sunday

Levothyroxine 100mcg x 1 daily Monday - Friday

Plaquenil 200mg x 2 daily - 1 Morning and 1 evening

Neither of these medications are known to cause weight gain or make it difficult to lose weight.

However, levothyroxine needs to be taken in appropriate doses to ensure stable well regulated thyroid status. Because if the thyroid is under - teated then it can cause weight gain or difficulty in losing weight.

To know if the levothyroxine dose is right, look at the blood test results for TSH and Free T4. If they are on target, then your thyroid is considered well controlled.

In general, TSH goal is 0.4 to 2 but this may need to be individualized especially if you have severe untreated osteoporosis or heart problems.
