Can Hypercholesterolemia Cause Dizziness And Headache?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Nov 2016
Question: Hi. I have felt dizzy now for two months and sometimes have a headache for the last two weeks. All my tests performed by my doctor was fine but it turned out that I have high cholesterol and feel stressed as well sometimes. Do you think I feel dizzy because of stress, high cholesterol, the hair XXXXXXX I use"Just for Men" or as my doctor predicts of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo as before this I had wax in my ear that we thought caused this problem.

Brief Answer:
High cholesterol can cause dizziness and head ache.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM,

I have gone through your query. High cholesterol also can give head ache and dizziness. If that is the cause then controlling it can be helpful to normalize this. For this you can make diet and life style modification. Take oily fish like mackerel , sardine or fish oil capsules, do exercises like jogging daily.

If these measures are not helping to decrease blood cholesterol then low dose statins can be taken.

BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) is usually self limiting. Anti-vertigo drugs like Meclizine and vertigo exercises like brandt daroff usually helps for this.

Even after lowering the cholesterol, if you still get vertigo, then an ENT consultation followed by MRI brain should be done to rule out any central causes, if needed .

Let me know if anything's not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
