Brief Answer:
Need more information..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

I understand your concern.

First of all,you may not need the drug rozavel for rest of your life.If your lipid parameters are well maintained with lifestyle modifications, dose of drug can be reduced or even stopped .

I would like to know if you have any other associated risk factors for coronary artery disease(CAD) like any previous history of CAD,hypertension, diabetes, family history of CAD(mainly in first degree relatives),overweight or obesity, smoking to comment well on the treatment strategy..

However with the limited information assuming no other risk factors(as mentioned above),i would prefer fibrate group drugs like fenofibrate(low dose) once daily along with diet and lifestyle modifications than rozavel. They are relatively safe and also more effective in reducing the triglyceride levels which is more elevated.

Reply back with the needed information to suggest better..Awaiting your reply..

Regards.

Hello Doctor.

Thanks for the quick response. i dont have any other risk factors mentioned above. My mother is Type 1 diabetic though. also i have been having a very careless lifestyle for past 2 years with high sweet intake and also 4 bottles of beer everyweek(Fridays Only). i also smoked 2 to 3 cigarettes every day for nearly six months until a month back. i have quit drinking and smoking for 2 months now.

My HBA1C was 6.8 when i checked it along with the Cholestrole. My fasting sugar was 112 and PP 140. Doctor suggested Glyciphage but i didnt start it yet. i am taking 4kms walk everyday now and also doing yoga, spcifically pranayam. i have lost 3kgs in last 15 days. my weight was 84Kgs before.

Brief Answer:
Needed mainly diet and lifestyle modifications....

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Thanks for following up with the updated information.

Its nice to hear that you have given up smoking and alcohol..

There is no need for any active medical intervention to correct the lipids right away.

Proper Diet and lifestyle modifications would itself be enough..

1)Encourage fiber rich diet in the form of fruits and fresh vegetables intake..
2)Strictly avoid saturated fatty foods(i.e mainly animal products) and simple sugar containing foods and beverages(like sweets, cookies etc) --->main reason for abnormal lipid profile especially increased triglycerides..
3)Encourage low to moderate fat in the form of unsaturated fats( i.e mainly plant source fat)
4)Increased physical activity(aerobic exercises like outdoor walking, jogging, swimming etc for 30 to 40 minutes daily)
5)Keep your blood sugar in control with medicines as prescribed by your doctor.
6)Proper weight management(BMI in the range of 21-23)

I hope following the above suggestions alone would surely help in improving your abnormal lipid profile.

However there is nothing wrong in taking the drug rozavel as your doctor prescribed. You can take it for a short period, say 1 month and then you can follow up with your doctor with the repeat lipid profile test to consider stopping the drug or altering the dose. The drug fenofibrate as i said earlier would also be a good alternative medication to reduce lipids along with diet and lifestyle changes in your case.

Hope i have answered your query. If any further concerns, happy to help you.
