Can Seroquel Be Started Without Taperring Off Imovane?

Question: I have been on Brintellix for about 8 weeks and been on imovane for about 5 yrs. imovane is no longer working, can I change straight over to seroquil to try and get some sleep, or do I have to taper off the imovane first?

Imovane use for this long places you at very high risk of severe withdrawal with abrupt cessation. Withdrawal can cause seizures and death. You will need to taper off the Imovane slowly under the careful supervision of a doctor.

You can begin low-dose Seroquel right away. You don't need to wait until Imovane is tapered off. Be advised that this may cause oversedation in combination with Imovane, so start with a low dose of Seroquel like 25mg. This will help you sleep.
