Can Regestrone Delay Menstruation?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: I am aged 32 years and my weight is 67 kgs. We have got a function at home but my periods also fall on the same date so I want to delay my periods by 4 to 5 days. My menstrual cycle is mainly 6-7 days and I have a normal cycle of 30 days. This month I am expecting my periods on Nov 19th and I want it delayed till Nov 25th. Also, I have copper-T. Can you please confirm whether I can take regestrone 5mg for this? If yes what should be the dosage and when it needs to be started. Please suggest if there are any other alternative medicines for the same. What are the side effects for these medications. Will this cause any complications later as I am having a normal menstrual cycle.

Brief Answer:
As explained.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
As I understand, you will expect your period on the 19th of November, and you do not want to menstruate until the 25th of November.
Generally, progesterone tablets are used for this purpose.
Tablets like Regestrone, Meprate, Deviry etc are used.
Strength of 10 mg twice a day is the usual dosage.
You need to start it around the 14th of November, and take it until the 25th of November.
Once you stop them, you will get a withdrawal bleed within 7 days at the most.
There are no major complications as such.
You may have a heavier period after stopping the tablets.
You may have a month or two of irregular periods after taking these tablets.
But nothing major to worry about.
It is best to start these tablets after consulting your gynecologist.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.
