Can Paxil Cause Weight Gain?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Sep 2014
Question: I am taking Paxil 25 mg cr for several
years and have gained 20 lb. is there
another medicine which will not cause
weight gain? I had asked this question
earlier and the response was there
is no weight gain from antidepressants
while there is ample evidence showing
there is significant weight gain from SSI, especially from Paxil. I have not
still gotten the answer to my question
whether I can take another antidepressant which will not make me
gain weight.

Brief Answer:
Antidepressant

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
You are taking paxil 25 mg cr from many years and gained weight 20 lbs.
Paxil is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ( SSRIs) .
It increases appetite hence weight gain , (but in few cases it also decrease appetite) so this may be the reason of WEIGHT GAIN in your case.
Since you are also taking avalide ( irbesartan+hydrochlorthiazide) lipitor 40 ( atorvastatin) xanax ( anxiety ).
Atypical antidepressants may help you :
TIANEPTINE , its side effects are dry mouth , epigastric pain, flatulence , insomnia, drowsiness, tremor and bodyache ( within a short period the medicine will adjust).
VENLAFAXINE, side effects are nausea, sweating , anxiety , dizziness .
Since these are prescription drugs so consult a psychiatrist .
Hope this will help you.Further any question I will reply in follow up.
Good luck .
