Posted on Sat, 11 Apr 2015
Question: Hi doctor, i am 32 and 5 and a half weeks pregnant. I had pcos but not a chronic condition. I was put on metformin since last year july 2014 and continued taking it since then. Now upon finding out i m pregnant doctor asked me to continue 500mg of metformin everyday until 13th week. Also, she has asked me to take duphaston twice a day until 13th week. I wanted to know if this medication is fine to take all the way till first trimester. Thanks

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX Can i just abruptly stop? Will it not bring in fluctuations in the insulin level? I hear metformin also reduces the changes of miscarriage?
Also, duphaston i m taking is orally and its 10mg, twice a day. Is this dosage fine? Is progestrone by insertion better than taking orally? Thanks again

Brief Answer:
You can stop abruptly

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes. You can abruptly stop. No problem. It wont alter insulin levels now. Metformin is not related to miscarriage.

Continue Duphaston 10 mg orally twice daily. This is good enough orally and absorption is also good.

Let me know if you need any more clarifications.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX Thanks for your earlier feedbacks.
I checked my serum progesterone level and its 11ng/ml. I start 7 weeks today. Do you think its low and progesterone dosage should be increased? I am on 10mg duphaston twice a day now.
