Brief Answer:
Go with prescription

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.

Iodine supplements will help only when hypothyroidism results from iodine deficiency. In your case, this is from hypo functioning of the thyroid tissue;not from iodine deficiency(at your age, hypothyroidism results from poor functioning of thyroid tissue). Also, for clinically apparent hypothyroidism from any cause, levothyroxine is the treatment of choice.Iodine supplements are usually used for prophylaxis;not treatment.

So,as your doctor advised,Levothyroxine is the best medicine suitable for correction of your hypothyroid state.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.
Regards,Dr Aslam.
