Brief Answer:
As enumerated and the solution to avoid complications.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
To recapitulate: Male/33 - doing Gym since 1 year - wants to check whether there are any side effects of taking protein supplements for muscle building.

The salient points to remember are:
- Protein supplements work only if you continue your exercises. This means that if you are not exercising one should not take protein supplements unless indicated by lab test of serum proteins.
This is so as the balanced diet will always have proteins in some or the other forms.
- Taking excessive protein supplements can cause the following side effects:
* Protein metabolism creates the waste products which can have direct effect on kidneys as they are excreted via kidney. Even a normal kidney may not sustain extra loads.
* Excess proteins is not utilized by the body can not be stored and hence the metabolites can get stored as fat.
* There can be a relative bone loss. This occurs in response of the kidneys to remove excess of acids in the blood that the calcium is also excreted as a buffer.
* Can produce dehydration if your water intake is less and/or you sweat a lot.
* If you take some products of protein supplements that are advertised but do not show the full contents, you can have more serious side effects as they can have some additions like steroids and will cause harm in long term. This is the experience we are getting from patients who have used it.
Hence it is important to go for the protein supplements by reputed companies only.

It is also very important that you take the proteins and the diet as advised by the Dietitian as they alone can exactly calculate your needs as per your age, weight, exercise schedule and so on.
Please remember, this is very important.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
