In US Kaopectate since 2004 has exactly the same ingredients as Pepto Bismol. It really does not get to bloodstream and stays in intestine. Most common side effects are constipation and black stool. This side effects usually last few days depending of the stool passage.
Muscle weakness and lack of energy are not caused by this medicines. Your symptoms are most likely caused by recent gastrointestinal infection or by some other condition which is thought to be virus infection.
Please note that any gastrointestinal infection affects good intestinal bacteria and whole body as a consequence. It sometimes take a week or even two to rebuild what has been destroyed by such infection. If you have had diarrhea and vomiting, for sure you are dehydrated (you can not restore it in a day or two) and have ions deficiency.
To fix it, you should increase well mineralized water intake, start probiotic intake. And proper nutrition is also very important to regain strength. Chicken and soups are usually helpful.
From the other hand, your symptoms can be caused by low hemoglobin level. If so, diarrhea could be a sign of partial bowels obstruction due to possible large intestine tumor. In such case, colonoscopy is a good idea.
