Are WBC At Stool, Stomach Pain And Diarrhea Signs Of Colon Cancer?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Apr 2016
Question: I have a few questions. I have been having some stomach pain and bowel issues for the past 3 months. For the last 2 months the stomach pain went away but I still have the bowel issues, usually loose stool and diarrhea. I had a fecal occult blood stool test witch was negative and was also tested for parasites, negative also. However I was tested positive for a wbc count in the stool. As of lately I have been experiencing a little anal leakage. Can these be symptoms of colon cancer. I am a 35 year old male..

Hi and thank you for asking!

Your symptoms are not typical for colon cancer.
WBC at stools are more related with GI inflammation. The causes of GI inflammation may be IBD.
Om the other hand your clinic may be related with :
- IBS
- IBD or other infections like viral infections.
To better evaluate you situation I would recommend to do:
- fecal calprotectin test.
It Is more sensitive than WBC stools test to rule out confirm GI inflammation and IBD( inflammatory bowel disease).
- colonoscopy.
Hope it was helpful to you.

I have a colonoscopy scheduled in two weeks. I'm kind of freaking out about the procedure. are colonocopys generally safe procedures? they are also doing a endoscopy. also is cramping associated with ibd? I've been experiencing a dull cramp on my lower left side. also what would be the reason for the anal leaking? I've also been experiencing a little bit of middle back pain. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hi back
With regards to colonoscopy and upper endoscopy don't worry.
These procedures are doing with sedation drugs , so you are not feeling nothing bad.
With regards to abdominal.pain cramping it may be due to IBD and due to IBS.
Please don't worry and finish your examinations.
Hope it was helpful to you.
