Belching is release of air or gas through the mouth from the stomach. usually presents with eruptive noise from mouth and throat. Gastric ulcers are one of the important causes.

Symptoms

Burning sensation in the mouth or throat.

Eruptive noise from mouth and throat accompanied by nausea.

Causes

You can reduce belching if you

  • Eat and drink slowly.
  • Eat 4-6 mini meals with small bites and mouth closed.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks and beer- they release carbon di oxide gas.
  • Skip gum and hard candy.
  • Don’t smoke.
  • Check your dentures- poorly fitting dentures can cause to swallow excess air.
  • Treat gastritis, gastric ulcers, and reflux disease.

Infants burping

  • Accumulation of gas in the stomach while feeding.
  • Agitation to the child unless it’s burped.
  • Burping can cause vomiting in the infants, burp cloth or pad is employed on the shoulder to protect the adults clothing.
  • Holding the infants up to the adults shoulder with the infant’s stomach resting on the adult’s chest, and gently patting over the lower back.
