one of my closest friends, a w/fm 85 y/o 240# weak lower extremities, uses a scooter to move around within the assisted living environment, is able to transfer from scooter to chair in dining room, and vice versa, same with transfers to computer chair from walking in apartment with walker for stabilization and safety.
SYMPTOMS started three days ago: UNABLE TO STAND WITH OR WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. SENT TO HOSP. VIA AMBULANCE THROUGH ER ADMIT. CT SCAN WAS NORMAL WITH EXCEPTION OF ONE VENTRICAL SLIGHTLY ENLARGED. TODAY DURING TRANSFER ASSISTED BY 3 PROPLE, INCONTINANCE OF BOWL OCCURRED FOR FIRST TIME. HER SON IS A POOR HISTORIAN OF WHAT IS GOING ON TEST WISE IN THE HOSPITAL; HOWEVER, HE DID SAY THAT A NEUROLOGIST SAW HER FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY. AFTER HIS EXAMINATION OF THE PATIENT HE MENTIONED THAT SHE MAY HAVE "NPH" WHICH IS ONLY CORRECTED BY BRAIN SURG. I HAVE TRIED TO LOOK UP THE ACCRONYM FOR nph AND FOUND ONLY ONE: Nuestras Pequenos Hermauos.
QUESTION: #1- Is this the correct Dx. for the acronym NPH ?
QUESTION: #2.-Can you EXPLAIN this DX. ?
I know the info is sketchy, but basicly there was sudden loss of strength and control of the legs bilaterally, which has remained that way for three days. I thank you for your time and attention to my questions.
