My Mother Had A Paraesphogial Hernia Repair (open Approach) On

my mother had a paraesphogial hernia repair (open approach) on 9/15/14. The surgeon said it was the largest he had ever seen. Things seemed to be going fairly well post surgery. She did develop a post surgical infection which increased her length of stay which was 17 days total. She is now having swelling of the ankles and some discomfort in her upper stomach area. She is still taking a oral antibiotic.
I'm curious if this could be a possible blood clot causing the ankle swelling?
