i am diabetic and was prescribed metformin er pills 500mg twice per day by my doctor. I was not able to use the normal prescription of 500mg 2x per day regular metformin due to it causing lower intestinal distress . I noticed after 3 days of the new medication for metformin er my stomach became upset and bloated , along with sharp pains on my left side of abdomen . I believe I had an adverse affect from the medication and since have been fighting boats of belching fullness and cramping pain . it could be ibs or gastritis . I have a history of diverticulitis since my colonoscopy of 2013. should I go to urgent care for antibiotics & proton pills.
