Oxycodone is usually prohibited to be taken in
pregnancy. There are two options.
(1) If taken in first 6-7 months:-
Oxycodone is Category B pregnancy drug meaning in simple words that there is no data available to determine its safety in humans, or if there is some data available that is of the experiments that we did on animals by giving them the product and seen no harm to their fetus.
If taken after 7 months of pregnancy:
It is very harmful for the baby to take it in this period after 7 months. It then is used only in life threatening conditions when there isn't any alternative available.
In Lactation:-
Totally contraindicated, means you can never use it when lactating a baby because it is excreted in breast milk.
Regarding its excretion from the body:
Half life of Oxycodone is 2-6 hours meaning 50% of the free drug is eliminated from the body in upto 6 hours. But there is also 45% of the drug that is not free, and this binds to
proteins in the body that may take longer time to get eliminated. I think your system has had been free of drug until now. And they don't do any test for Oxycodone at delivery. So relax and I pray for an eventless & smooth delivery for you.
