Will Smoking Medical Drug Affect My Healing Process In A Negative Way?

Hello Dr, my name is Lena. I had my gallbladder removed about one week ago and I've been recovering well, not in any pain anymore, just a little sore here and there (without being on pain meds). I smoke medical marijuana on a daily due to my insomnia, nausea problems, and muscle aches. However, since my surgery I haven't. I've been too scared to smoke because I've heard from some people it may slow down the healing process but without it, it has been extremely hard for me to even get one hour of sleep and my muscle pains and nausea has been killing me, and at first the pain meds they gave me after surgery we're also helping with the muscle aches but I know longer have any pain meds. So my question is, will smoking medical marijuana affect my healing process in a negative way or do any harm?

Hello dear!
Thank you for asking us on HCM!
I appreciate sharing your concerns with us!

First I would like to ask you a few questions:
- Are you a habitual smoker or you use it often?
- Have you tried other drugs to manage your nausea, or sleeping problems?
- If it is medical marijuana, have you ever consult any doctor?

In my opinion it doesn't seem to be a problem if you smoke it just for medical reasons, and not to often.
This doesn't mean i'm promoting the use of marijuana because as it is known, other problems may come by using it (dependence, chronic lung diseases, gastric irritation, pulmonary cancer etc).
I would not suggest you to use it for a long time. If you want an alternative solution to manage this problems post gallbladder removal you can talk to your primary doctor to prescribe drugs which will help you in this case.
I would suggest you domperidone for the nausea, and zolpidem for a short period of time to manage your insomnia.
You may start prepare your body with new sleep habits so you would not need drugs in the future.
Do not go to sleep to early, get up early in the morning, do physical activity, have light meals in the evening, etc.

I hope you will make achievement!
