Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 101 year old aunt had gangrene of a toe with swelling and discoloration of the ankle and open sores on her lower leg. The doctors gave her antibiotics to prevent sepsis and have refused to operate because of her age. She also does not want them to amputate her lower leg. She is now considered stable and we have been told that she will be able to return to assisted living in her nursing home rather than remain in the skilled nursing center of the home. My understanding is that this will eventually cause her death and that she should be in the skilled nursing center as opposed to her own apartment. Am I wrong? How long will it be before this claims her life?
Hello from my own opinion I am suggesting that she should stay in the nursing center where ever hospital care will be rendered in case of any complications that may arise in the nearest future despite her healing gangrene
