Will A Disc Tear In The Neck Heal In The Elderly?

My 96 year old mother fell and injured her neck. Doc says a disc is torn,. She is wearing a neck brace. He didn t want to do surgery because of her age. After wearing this brace for 5 weeks, she was told to wear it for another month and then they would xray it again. He said it was possible for scar tissue to fill the gap in the tear. She is not in any pain. My question is: Is it possible for this type injury to heal or ever get better so she doesn t have to wear the brace any more?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear Greetings
Regarding whether the disc torn in your grandmother neck will heal adequately following placement with neck brace I will suggest yes though it is going to take a long time to heal due to low calcium level in her body due to age

I hope this helps
Regards and get well soonest
