Will I Be Able To Walk Normally After The FIB Open Reduction Surgery?
Hello I had tib/ fib open reduction surgery January 27 also fascietomy was performed. I was fitted with a Frankenstein boot for lack of a better word. I'm restricted to no heel contact just toe touch and I use a walker when I do walk. Which isn't very much. I'm able to remove the boot if I like and the swelling on my ankle has gotten much better. This Wednesday I go back to my doctor at which time he said I will be able to get rid of the boot. Is it feasible to think I will be able to put full weight bearing on my leg?. I feel as if I'm progressing it just the swelling and pain which usually starts at 4 pm so most of the day it's not swollen and relatively pain free. Any advice or words at all would be greatly appreciated. It's quite tough at times being immobilized more mentally taxing to me than physically
Tibiafibula if fixed properly, you can start full weigh bearing after 3 months. Though every patient has different fracture and also depends on how good was fixation achieved during surgery. So let your surgeon decide when he wants to start weight bearing. Swelling will increase once you start walking, just ignore it as it is going to stay for six to seven months.
