Why Is My Son Infatuated To Sun?

hello, my son who is 9. is very infatuated with the sun! when he goes outside he looks right at the sun and waves his hand across his eyes and keep doing it, like he is in a trance or something. it has gotten so bad that we dont let him outside anymore when the sun is out. when he is in school he cant go to recess or p.e. anymore because he does it then also. he has started having seizures now because of this. we have to keep the windows covered up because will catch him looking out the windows at the sun as well.. any thoughts how we can stop this??

Pediatrician 's  Response
Thank you for following up. Unfortunately, he has visual aura before seizures,it is a perceptual disturbance experienced by bright light. In your case the sun is trigger, which can lead to a seizure. Anti epileptic medicines will control this process. Discuss dosage of medicines with his neurologist for prophylaxis of seizures . Take precautions if his seizures are not fully controlled. Avoid bright light, put on sunglasses, and educate family members on steps to minimize injury if he has a seizure. Tell them to protect him against falling, if he loses consciousness.
