Hello,

Breast fed babies will often develop changes in their stool patterns. And typically around this age of 2 months. The key is the kind of stool. Even if he is not pooping frequently, but what comes out is soft, then this is normal.

You may even have a big "blow out" poop where the poop goes everywhere, even coming out the diaper up his back. If instead his poops are hard dry balls, then you need to increase the amount he is feeding.

Sometimes babies feed too frequently but don't get full at one time, missing the mother's hind milk. If hard, you could try a few ounces of Pedialtye or prune juice.

In general, I would advise you to only use suppositories sparingly because this is a normal pattern. If only the first part of the stool is hard and dry, just using Vaseline around his anus, without putting something in, should help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Lisa Baker
