Why Is It That Following Heart Surgery - Double Coronary

Why is it that following heart surgery - double coronary by-pass, the tail of my sternum is distinctly off-centre, towards the (my) right? Feeling for centre where one would expect the tail to be, there is a hole of nothingness and a solid mass of bone on the right.

Thank you
