Why Is Clexane Advised During 39 Weeks Of Pregnancy?
Hi! Why would my OBGYN have me start doing Clexane at week 39? I have had two miscarriages, but why would he suggest I start now when my baby could be born any day?? I have no history of DVT or even varicous veins. My baby is transverse if that s of any interest.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Clexane injection contains the active ingredient 'enoxaparin', which is a type of low molecular weight heparin. It is used to stop blood clots forming within the blood vessels (blood thinner). Several reasonable management options exist for anti-coagulation prior to delivery. Pregnancy increases the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) by 4- to 5-fold. Patients undergoing cesarean delivery have twice the risk of VTE as patients in the setting of vaginal delivery. For the above reasons, probably your doctor could have recommended for the above medication. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
