Why Does My Throat Feel Obstructed After Swallowing A Chewing Gum?

I accidentally swallowed a piece of gum. I shone a torchlight in the back of my throat after feeling discomfort. I saw my tonsils were swollen and a white sack peeking out. got a swab and tried to take it out. I gagged and I think I swallowed the white sack. I am feeling something stuck in my throat. It could be both the white sack and the chewing gum. it has been over a week now. What can I do besides finding a good ENT.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Probably you locally irritated the mucosal lining of your throat and this is the feeling you have. If the tonsils were swollen and you have difficulty swallowing there might be an underlying infection or inflammation going on. I would recommend that you don't try to remove it or manipulate your throat by yourself until your appointment with the ENT or ER doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
