Why Does My 8 Month Old Baby Stops Breathing In Middle Of The Night?

My 8 month old baby has had a few episodes where he has stopped breathing in the middle of the night. It takes a little bit for me to shake him out of whatever is happening to him. It scares the life out of me. Last night it happened again and he was cold to the touch.
