White Spots On Face, Chest And Back That Are Specifically Visible In Winter. Is This Pityriasis Alba?
Hello Doc!! I have light white spots on my face (on chin and near ear) and these are spreading.. I have these spots on my back since last 5-6 years.. They get disappeared in winters and again visible during summers.. This winters, back spots are invisible but face spots are still visible.. I think it is due to Tinea versicolor but this time I'm having same spots on my chest also.. But a little scaling is also present over them. It might be Pityriasis Alba.. suggest me what to do? Thanx..
Its very difficult to make a confirmatory diagnosis without having visually examined a patient. Pityriasis alba and Piyriasis versicolor are both characterised by Post Inflammatory Hypopigmentation.
I would advice that you get a KOH Scraping done from the scale. If its +ve, It would be confirmatory for pityriasis versicolor.
Follow up with a dermatologist with the test report or you can write in to me directly on this forum.
Take care regards Dr. kakkar
