While I was following a strict low carb diet my trigylcerides were very low, in spite of consuming 2-3 drinks nightly consisting of vodka and diet soda. I have begun to add carbs back into my diet while still watching overall intake. Alcohol intake has remained the same. Tri's are rising... From ~75 to ~140. I was dx with Paekinsons ~ 2-1/2 years ago and have been taking Mirapex at increasing levels. Also take HCTZ twice a day now because of severe swelling of right ankle and foot. Weight has also increased rather swiftly. PD symptoms are well under control.. still no tremors just bradykinasia on right side. My mom,who died in 12/13, followed a very low fat diet, was always small... 100 lbs., no alcohol to speak of, but her tri's were always HIGH. She had 5 heart attacks and we lost her from the 5th. My dad , almost 88, has severe dementia and has always had "high cholesterol"... was on statins for years... Tri's high. He is ( was) normal weight, very active... regularly had 2-3 scotch & waters every evening... sometimes more. His mind is failing fast, but his overall health is great! Good appetite, bp, etc. the only meds the nursing home gives him are stool softeners and a relaxer at night for sleep. My neurologist told me that having an alcoholic drink might do me good... lower stress I guess. Just wondering what your thoughts are while you read this rambling novel I seem to have written. Guess I'm asking if I should worry about the effects of the vodka overall. Thank you!
