Which Injection Is Given For Low Oxygen Levels In Blood?

A friend is in the hospital with very low oxygen levels. He has a full facial mask on that is forcing oxygen into his body instead of just breathing it. They are going to give him a shot in the morning that will be very painful according to his doctor! Can you tell me what this shot is and what it will do?

Thanks for your question on HCM. As you are describing your friend's condition, I think he is having severe bronchospasm which needed non invasive ventilation for better oxygenation. And in this situation steroids are beneficial. And usually given in injection when condition is serious.
The main action of steroid is anti inflammatory and reduce the airway edema and thus improves oxygenation.
So it might be steroid shot which you are talking.
Some antibiotics do have once daily dose. So the injection shot may be of antibiotics also.
