When Is A Bone Scan Imaging Test Required?

My labs were taken last week for a check up and my doctor wants to do a bone scan because my calcium level is 11.1 and alkaline level is 137 and I m a bit concerned about why we are doing the bone scan and is this something that is looked at when they are looking for cancer.

Hi,

Can you mention what are the symptoms that took you to doctor? Bone scan detects even minor changes in bone metabolism- useful when we suspect not only cancer, but other bones disorders like a hidden fracture, osteomyelitis or even arthritis. Bone scan can detect such conditions before x rays.

Calcium and ALP levels mentioned are marginally high for an adult. Your doctor will discuss in details.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
