Thank you for the query.
I would like to know the age of your mother and whether she is suffering from any conditions like diabetes mellitus apart from asthma (which you have mentioned).
Since your mother had a bout of respiratory tract infection accompanied by Type 2 respiratory failure, requiring mechanical ventilation, I presume that she was administered, high end intravenous antibiotics. De-escalation of antibiotics and switching over to oral antibiotics will be required once she has overcome the critical period and definite blood investigation reports (like sputum culture or blood culture) are obtained. Capsule Cefspan (400mg) is an oral antibiotic composed of Cefixime (a third generation cephalosporin) and has been given for the management for her respiratory tract infection. It may some minor side effects like nausea, vomiting, sometimes diarrhoea and rashes. But I would advise that your mother completes the course of this antibiotic for the duration advised (if she is tolerating it)
Hope this helps you.
